Contact with Locals

There are tourists, and there are travellers. The former simply looks and leaves. The latter seeks to embrace their surroundings, to understand how their counterparts live, learn, and survive. On TA journeys, we schedule meetings with local students - often at their schools - to promote friendship and understanding between cultures.

In a 2003 survey of 30,000 teachers, we found that one of the greatest desires of teachers was that their pupils have opportunities to interact with people who have valuable talents or different life experiences to share. We introduce students to artists, scientists, performers, educators and students in other cities and countries. Through this interaction, we expose students to new possibilities and encourage them to dream.

Do Rather Than See

Most tourists who visit New York see a Broadway show. Very few, however, get a chance to put on their own mini-production and be critiqued by theatre professionals.

Thousands of travelers visit Costa Rica each year, but few have the opportunity to participate in sea turtle research.

As a company staffed by educators, we understand the needs of teachers. We put our classroom experience - cumulatively several hundred years - to work planning and leading tours that are educational in focus but still packed with fun.
